Answer:
a) The cluster of flowers looks like big flowers which attracts pollinating agents.
When the pollengrains are lighter in weight, this makes the pollination easy by wind.
Water is a pollinating agent, when stigma is sticky and pollen grains have waxy coating this helps in pollination by water.

b) The leaves surrounding bougainvillae and mussaenda flower changes colour and gives the appearence of a flower to the pollinating agents like insects for pollination. The advantage is, it increses the chances of pollination and helps the propagation of plant.

a) What is the difference between the movement of gaint wheel and the movement of the child on the wheel when it works?
b) How is vibration differ from oscillation? Explain with examples.
Answer:
a) Movement of giant wheel – Rotation Movement of child on the weel – Circular motion

b) Oscillation is the to and fro motion of a body about a mean position.
The motion of the pendulum of a clock is to and fro motion. This is an example of oscillation.
But fast oscillations are called vibrations. When the tuning fork is hit with a rubber hammer the tines begin to vibrate. This is an example for vibration.

The Observation result of an iodine test in various food items is given below.

(a) Analyse the table. Write down your findings.
(b) How can you identify the presence of protein in these food items.
Answer:
a) Rice and boiled potato contain high amount carbohydrate. So it gives dark blue colour when iodine is added.
(ii) Tomato contains small amount of carbohydrate so it gives light blue colour when iodine is added.
Egg and milk does not contain carbohydrates so it doesnot gives positive iodine test.

b) The test to check the presence of protien in food items.
Required materials : copper sulphate, water, sodium hydroxide, dropper, beaker, test tube, the food item.
Procedure: Add some water to the food item which we want to check: Take this upto a quarter of a test tube. Add 8-10 drops of 1% concentrated sodium dydroxide to it. stir it and add 2 drops of 1% concentrated. Copper Sulphate solu-tion to it.
Observation: Violet colour indicates the presence of protien.

RAT INFESTATION IS INCREASING Vayalnattukara : The number of rats increases extensively in paddy fields. Extensive crop damage is reported in this region. This is attributed to the destruction of the rat snakes that feed on rats.

The extinction of one species cause problems in ecosystem.
a) If the number of frogs in a area decreases, how will it affect the paddy crop? What other changes happen in the ecosystem due to this?
b) Prepare a poster that convey the message of the importance of protecting our environment.
Answer:
a) If the number of frogs in an area decrease, the number of insects and grasshoppers which destroys the paddy, crop increases. This affect the paddy crops production. If the number of frogs decreases, the number of snakes which eats the frogs also decreses. In the same way insects, mosquitos, grasshoppers which are the food for frog also increases. It adversely affect the ecosystem. Due to the increase in number of mosquitos the diseases like degue, malaria also increases. This will affect the entire ecosystem.

b) Magnetic force is stronger at the ends of magnet. These end portions of a magnet are the poles of the magnet. Therefore iron dust is more attracted by the poles.

c) The magnetic strength is stronger at the regions near the poles. As the distance from the pole increases the magnetic strength weakens. The region around a magnet where the force of the magnet is felt is the magnetic field.
