Activity – II Prepare a Speech
Radha in the story ‘The Champ’ got the award for bravery from the President of India. Her school arranged a meeting to congratulate her. She gave a thanksgiving speech.
Prepare a speech.

Answer:
Hon. Principal, Respected teachers and my dear friends, I feel highly grateful to you for organising this meeting to congratulate me. I was very glad to receive the Award for Bravery from the President of India. 1 don’t know if I merited such an Award because what I did was saving my cousin Aman from drowning. Anybody would have done the same in such a situation.
It is true that my cousins, Ranjit and Aman, did not want to take me with them. They thought I did not have any particular style of swimming like them. Moreover I did not have a swimming costume and so I was sitting on a rock near the river Yamuna and reading something when my cousins and their friends went for swimming in the river.
Aman was soon carried away by the current but nobody was willing to go and help him as they were afraid. But I soon jumped into the river and was able to rescue him. Then they realised that what is important is not the style of swimming but competence in it.
I recommend that all of you learn swimming. It is good for health and also a good pastime. It will be useful to you in life especially when you are required to travel in boats.
I once again thank you for the love you are showering on me.

Activity V – Thoughts
The Prince married Chinderella and took her to the palace. She pardoned her stepmother and her sisters. She took them all to the pal-ace with her. The stepmother , felt sorry for treating Cinderella badly.
Write the thoughts of the stepmother.
Answer:
I should not have treated Cinderella so cruelly. When my daughters took away Cinderella’s good dresses and made her wear wooden shoes, I should have stopped them from doing such bad things to Cinderella. I should not have made Cinderella work at home from morning till night. She had to get up early in the morning, make the fire, cook and wash. I did not even give her a bed to sleep comfortably. The poor girl was resting on the hearth among cinders. I should have allowed Cinderella to go to the dance when she begged me to allow her. But I was too selfish and wanted only my daughters go for the dance. But God is great.
He worked a miracle by sending a godmother to Cinderella and making her ready for the dance with the Prince. Even when the Prince came to our house to see whose shoe was lost during the party, I refused to let Cinderella try the shoe. Here again the godmother helped her. The Prince takes her to the palace to make her his bride. And how graciously she behaved! She forgave my daughters and me in spite of all the mistreatments we gave her. Cinderella is really a great girl. I have learned my lesson. God rewards those who are good. From now on, I will be a loving mother to Cinderella.
