Answer:
The aim of self reliance is to attain self – sufficiency in agricultural, industrial and service sectors using the available resources and to avoid foreign dependence. Self reliance in the development of – basic industries and energy will help the economic growth of the nation.

This individual will be punished through the systems like police, court and prison. Civilised societies use these methods for social control. These systems and institutions are established and implemented by the governments in each country.

Question 10.
73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments brought changes in local self-administration. Elucidate.
Answer:
The 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments were passed by the Parliament in 1992 and it led to the establishment of Panchayati Raj and Nagarpalika institutions in India. A new three tier system of Grama Panchayat, Block Panchayat and District Panchayat started functioning in India. This was the beginning of decentralized planning in India during the Ninth Five Year Plan.

Gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen in the existence of life forms. Elucidate.
Answer:
Plants make use of Carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Man and other organisms make use of oxygen for respiration. Plants make use of nitrogen for their growth through nitrogen fixation.

What are Wet lands? Explain.
Answer:
Wetlands are natural sinks of surface water. Paddy fields, ponds, swampy region and all low lying regions come under the category of low lands. The water stored here form part of the ground water. Reclamation of the wet lands which are the natural sinks of water will lead to several environmental problems like the following. Lowering of water level in wells. Floods become common in rivers even in slight rains.

Question 14.
Explain the features of Stratosphere
Answer:
Extends up to a height of about 50 Km from the earth and lies above the tropopause. In the lower parts of the stratosphere there is no change in temperature with altitude. This zone is called isothermal zone. Beyond this there is increase in temperature with altitude. Ozone layer which forms part of this layer absorbs the harmful ultra violet rays from the sun and prevents it from reaching the earth. Allows the free movement of jet aircrafts through clear atmospheric conditions and absence of air gutters. The zone of transition above the stratosphere is called stratopause.

Question 15.
Explain, how Grama Panchayat and District Panchayat help in achieving local development?
Answer:

  • District Panchayat: The projects submitted by the block panchayat is examined by the district level planning committee to give approval. The projects will be handed over to the State planning Board.
