I was an accidental tourist. As I came out of the airport I was wondering what awaits me outside. I went to Oman to stay with my niece. The sea looked the same everywhere. One feels great joy at these quiet beaches.
At Sweithan in Abu Dhabi I saw something unexpected. It was the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It is the largest solar plant in the world producing 1.2 Giga Watt of power. (One GW is 1 billion watts – 1,000,000,000 watts!) Tourists are not allowed inside the power plant. I had to satisfy myself with the photographs on the net. The plant has 3.2 million solar panels. I wish tourists were given an aerial view of the plant.
Then I saw Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. I could not go to the top of that. A boat ride at Bur Dubai late in the evening was an enjoyable experience. The glittering lights and their reflections in the creeks make you think you are not in this world. Then I had a metro ride from Al Nahda to Stadium. The ride was also joyful. Watching the landscape from the train is always entertaining. Here the landscape was quite different.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum was a real marvel. It has some the world’s most fascinating archaeological remains, paintings, sculptures and other things. It carries the name of the famous Louvre Museum in France on an agreement. The Louvre of France has rented more than 300 pieces to the Museum here for display. I could spend only half a day here. I would have loved to spend at least a week. As I was boarding my flight to Calicut, I wished I had more time for a visit like this, at least two weeks.

ഡയിൽ നിന്നും സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിലേക്ക് ഒരു മെട്രോ യാത്ര ഞാൻ നടത്തി. അതും രസാവഹമായിരുന്നു. ഓടുന്ന ട്രെയിനിൽ നിന്നും ചുറ്റുപാടുകൾ വീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് രസകരമാണ്. പക്ഷേ ഇവിടെ ഭൂപ്രകൃതി വളരെ വ്യത്യസ്തമായിരുന്നു.
