It was something that happened last month. I was going to school. As I was standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus, I saw a young man on a motorbike being hit by a speeding truck. The young man fell down and he was trying to get up. But he was not able to. There were many. people at the bus stop but nobody was willing to go and help the victim of the accident. Soon the bus for which I was waiting came. All the people standing there got into the bus. But my mind did not allow me to ignore the injured youth.
I went near him. His motorbike was badly smashed. As he was wearing his helmet he did not have any head injuries. But he was not able to lift his leg. Obviously it was fractured. There was heavy bleeding from his knees. I helped him to stand up. I tried to stop some passing vehicles, but none of them stopped. Finally I stopped an auto and took him to the nearby hospital. The doctor in the casualty examined him and told him that his leg was fractured. He was given first aid and the he was admitted for further treatment. I explained to the hospital authorities what I had seen. They called the police. I repeated the incidents to the police. They allowed me to go. I was late by two hours. I explained to the headmaster what made me late. He was very happy to know that I was late because I was helping an accident victim. He affectionately patted my shoulder and then said what I did was an excellent thing. Education should make people empathetic so that they become helpful to their fellow beings.
I felt very happy. I feel proud that I was able to be of help to someone in distress.
