One of the early hominids was Australopithecus, which showed both human like and ape-like features. From this stage, the Homo group evolved. The first in this group was Homo habilis, known as “the tool makers,” who used simple tools. They were followed by Homo erectus, “the upright humans,” who could walk fully upright and had learned to use fire. Finally came Homo sapiens, “the wise or thinking man,” who developed language, culture, and advanced tools. Modem humans belong to this group.
