Stanza 1:

Stanza 2:
Since I first made my count nineteen autumns have gone. This time before I had finished counting them, they all suddenly form small groups and fly away making a big noise with their wings.

I used to enjoy watching those brilliant birds. Since they have flown away, my heart feels the pain of their absence. All is changed since on this shore the time, at twilight, I first heard the rhythmic beat of their wings above my head, while walking at a very slow pace.

William Butler Yeats (1865 – 1939) was an Irish poet, dramatist and prose writer. He was one of the great literary figures of the 20th century. He was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival. He got the Nobel Prize in 1923. He wrote the preface to the English translation of “Gitanjali” by Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore got the Nobel Prize for “Gitanjali” in 1913.
