Stanza 1:
I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. Whatever I see I swallow immediately just as it is, without any special love or dislike. I am not cruel. I am only truthful. I have the all seeing eye of a little god. Most of the time I just look and meditate on the opposite wall. It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long that I think it is part of my heart. But it flickers. Faces and darkness separate us time and again.

ഞാൻ വെള്ളിയും കൃത്യവുമാണ്. എനിക്ക് മുൻധാരണകളൊന്നുമില്ല. ഞാൻ കാണുന്നതെന്തും പ്രത്യേക സ്നേഹമോ അനിഷ്ടമോ ഇല്ലാതെ അത് അതേപടി വിഴുങ്ങുന്നു. ഞാൻ ക്രൂരനല്ല. ഞാൻ സത്യസന്ധൻ മാത്രമാണ്. എനിക്ക് ഒരു ചെറിയ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാം കാണുന്ന കണ്ണുണ്ട്. മിക്കപ്പോഴും ഞാൻ എതിർവ ശത്തെ ഭിത്തിയിൽ നോക്കി ധ്യാനിക്കുന്നു. അതിന് പിങ്ക് നിറമാണ്. പുള്ളികളുണ്ട്. ഞാൻ ഇത്രയും നേരം അതിനെ നോക്കിയതിനാൽ അത് എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണെന്ന് ഞാൻ കരുതുന്നു. പക്ഷേ അത് മിന്നിമറയുന്നു. മുഖങ്ങളും ഇരുട്ടും നമ്മളെ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും വേർതിരിക്കുന്നു.
Stanza 2:
Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me, searching all over me for what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back, and reflect it faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands.
I am important to her. She comes and goes. Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness. In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

Sylvia Plath (1932 – 1963) was an American poet, novelist and writer of short stories. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She is credited with advancing the genre of confessional poetry. She is best known for “The Colossus and Other Poems”, “Ariel” and “The Bell Jar”, a semi-autobiographical novel published shortly before her death by suicide in 1963. She is one of the best known poets of the 20th century. She was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1982 for “The Collection of Poems” published in 1981, almost 20 years after her death.
