Cinderella Summary in English
Once, a rich man lived happily with his wife and daughter. One day, the wife became sick and she thought she would die. She called her daughter and told her to be a good and pious child and God would take care of her. She said from heaven she would look upon her. She then died. The girl went to the mother’s grave everyday and cried. She remained good and pious. Soon the father married again. The new wife was proud and unkind.
The new wife had two daughters of her own. She brought them. They were beautiful from the outside, but they were wicked and ugly inside. Bad days were coming for Cinderella. The new girls treated Cinderella like a kitchen maid. They took away all her good dresses. They made her wear an old dress and wooden shoes. Cinderella had to do all the work at home from morning till night. She got up early in the morning, made the fire, cooked and washed. She had no bed to lie down and she had to rest on the hearth among the cinders. She always looked dusty and dirty. So they named her Cinderella.
The Magic Begins
One day the prince of the land invited all the young girls for a dance. He would choose his wife from the girls who came for the dance. Cinderella’s sisters chose the best gowns and made their hair beautiful. They would not take Cinderella to the dance. Cinderella begged the stepmother. But she insulted Cinderella saying that she is a dusty, dirty girl. The stepmother took her two daughters to the dance. Cinderella cried. She thought of her mother who would have sent her for the dance.
Suddenly the queen of fairies appeared. She told Cinderella she is her godmother. Cinderella could go for the dance. The queen took Cinderella to her room. She asked Cinderella to get a pumpkin from the garden. The godmother waved a magic wand over the pumpkin. It turned into a red coach. To draw the coach, horses were needed. The godmother asked Cinderella to bring the mousetrap behind her house. Cinderella brought it. There were six mice in it. The godmother made them into 6 white horses.
The godmother then told Cinderella to bring the 6 lizards she would find in the garden. When Cinderella brought them, they were changed into footmen. But Cinderella looked at her clothes and felt sad. The godmother then touched her with her magic wand and her dirty clothes changed into beautiful dresses of silk and gold. There were diamonds for her hair. and two glass shoes for her feet. The fairy told her she could go to the ball. The magic will end at 12 midnight. She must return home before that time.
The Ball
Cinderella went to the ball like a princess. Everybody said how beautiful she was. The prince noticed her. He danced only with her. Her sisters were jealous. But they did not know the princess was Cinderella. She went on dancing, forgetting the time. The clock began to strike 12. She remembered the words of the fairy. She bowed to the prince and ran out quickly. Reaching home, she wanted to tell the godmother all the things that happened. She said she wanted to go to the ball even the next day as the prince had invited her. Then her sisters knocked at the door. Cinderella opened the door.
She pretended as if she had been sleeping and asked them why they were so late. They said the finest princess had come and the prince danced with her. Cinderella asked them for the name of the princess. They did not know the name. Cinderella smiled and pretended she wanted to see such a beautiful princess. Then she asked one of the sisters to lend her the yellow dress she was wearing every day. The cruel sister said how she could lend her dress to such a dirty girl. Everyone except Cinderella laughed loudly.
The next day the sisters went to the ball. Cinderella also went. She was dressed even better than yesterday. The prince was always at her side, praising her. Cinderella forgot about the time. Then she heard the clock striking 12. She jumped up and ran like a deer. In her hurry, one of her glass shoes was left in the ball room.
As she reached the coach, she heard the last ‘ding dong’ of 12. Suddenly the coach became a pumpkin, the horses became mice, and the footmen became lizards. Her clothes became. the old rags. But one glass shoe on her foot did not change. She reached home before her sisters arrived. They did not know that she had gone to the ball.
The Search
The prince became very sad when Cinderella left him. His servants brought the glass shoe she had left behind. He wanted to find out the girl who danced with him. He asked his messengers to announce that he would visit every home the next day to find out the lady. All ladies were happy, especially the two sisters of Cinderella. They put on their best clothes and waited for the prince. Cinderella did not have any good clothes.
The prince went to every house and asked the girls there to try on the shoe. The girls tried but it would not fit them. Finally the prince went to Cinderella’s house. First, the elder sister took the shoe into her room to try it.
Her mother was with her. She could not get her big toe into the shoe. Then the mother gave her a knife and told her to cut the toe off. When she is a queen she will not have to walk. So she cut the toe off and squeezed her foot into the shoe. She hid her pain. The prince saw the blood flowing under the shoe.
Then the younger sister tried it. But her heel was too large. The mother asked her cut off a piece of the heel. She cut it and put her foot into the shoe. Now the prince was angrier and said it did not fit her foot.
Cinderella came forward and said she would try it. Her sisters laughed at her and asked her to go away with her dirty clothes. But the prince allowed her to try. It fitted her
perfectly. All were surprised. She then brought r the other shoe with her and put it on her right foot. The fairy changed Cinderella’s clothes into clothes of silk and gold. The prince danced with joy and said this was the right bride. He said to Cinderella that she was the most beautiful girl in the world and he would make her his bride. The prince married her and took her to the palace. Cinderella pardoned her sisters and took them to the palace with her. They all lived happily thereafter.

ഒരിക്കൽ ധനികനായ ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ അയാളുടെ ഭാര്യയുടെയും മകളുടേയും കൂടെ സന്തോഷ ത്തോടെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കൽ ഭാര്യ അസുഖം പിടിച്ച് കിടപ്പിലായി. അവൾ മരിച്ചു പോകും എന്ന വിചാരം അവൾക്ക് വന്നപ്പോൾ അവൾ തന്റെ മകളെ അടുത്തുവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ നല്ല കുട്ടിയായിരിക്കണം. നല്ല ഭക്തിയോടെ ജീവിക്കണം എന്ന്. അപ്പോൾ അവളെ ദൈവം അനുഗ്രഹിക്കും. താൻ മരി ച്ചാലും സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിന്ന് അവൾ മകളെ അന്വേഷിക്കുമെന്നും കൂട്ടിചേർത്തു. അവർ വേഗം തന്നെ മരിച്ചുപോയി. അവളുടെ പിതാവ് മറ്റൊരു കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചു. ആ പുതിയ ഭാര്യ വലിയ അഹംഭാവിയും കൂരയുമായിരുന്നു. ആ പുതിയ ഭാര്യക്ക് അവളുടെ സ്വന്തമായി രണ്ട് പെൺകുട്ടികളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ആ പെൺകുട്ടിക ളേയും അവൾ കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു. പുറമേ നിന്ന് നോക്കുമ്പോൾ സുന്ദരികളായിരുന്ന ങ്കിലും അവരുടെ മനസ്സ് വൃത്തികെട്ടതും കുബുദ്ധി നിറഞ്ഞതുമായിരുന്നു. സിൻഡ്രല്ലക്ക് ചീത്തദിവസങ്ങൾ വരുകയായിരുന്നു. ആ രണ്ട് പെൺകുട്ടികൾ സിൻഡ്രലയെ വെറുമൊരു അടുക്കളപ്പണിക്കാരിയായി കണക്കാക്കി. സിൻഡലയുടെ നല്ല ഉടുപ്പുകളൊക്കെ അവർ എടുത്തുമാറ്റി. ഒരു പഴയ ഡ്രസ്സും മരചെരിപ്പുക ളുമാണ് അവൾക്ക് ധരിക്കാൻ കൊടുത്തത്. രാവിലെ മുതൽ രാത്രിവരെ സിൻഡലേക്ക് എല്ലാ വീട്ടുജോലികളും ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വന്നു. അവൾ അതിരാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അടുപ്പിൽ തീ കത്തിക്കും, ഭക്ഷണം പാകം ചെയ്യും, എല്ലാം കഴുകി വൃത്തിയാക്കും, അവൾക്ക് സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു കട്ടിൽ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് അടുപ്പിന ടുത്ത് ചാരത്തിലാണ് അവൾ കിടന്നിരുന്നത്. അവൾ എപ്പോഴും വൃത്തിഹീനമായും പൊടി പിടിച്ചതായും കാണപ്പെട്ടു. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് അവർ അവളെ സിൻഡലെ എന്ന് വിളിച്ചിരു ന്നത്.

ഒരിക്കൽ ആ രാജ്യത്തെ രാജകുമാരൻ അവിടെ യുള്ള എല്ലാ അവിവാഹിതയായ പെൺകുട്ടിക ളേയും ഒരു ഡാൻസ് പാർട്ടിക്ക് ക്ഷണിച്ചു. അവിടെ വരുന്ന പെൺകുട്ടികളിൽ നിന്നും ഒരാളെ അയാൾ ഭാര്യയായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കും. സിൻഡ്രലയുടെ രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാരും അവരുടെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല ഡ്രസ്സുകൾ ഇട്ട്, തലമുടിയൊക്കെ ഭംഗിയായി അലങ്കരിച്ച് ഡാൻസ് പാർട്ടിക്ക് പോയി. സിൻഡലയെ അവർ കൊണ്ടുപോയില്ല. തന്നെ ഡാൻസിന് വിടാൻ സിൻഡ്രല അവ ളുടെ രണ്ടാനമ്മയോട് കേണപേക്ഷിച്ചു. പക്ഷേ ക്രൂരമായ ആ രണ്ടാനമ്മ അവളെ വൃത്തികെട്ട വൾ, നിറയെ പൊടി പിടിച്ചവൾ എന്നെല്ലാം വിളിച്ച് പരിഹസിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. രണ്ടാനമ്മ അവരുടെ രണ്ട് മക്കളേയും കൊണ്ട് ഡാൻസ് പാർട്ടിക്ക് പോയി. സിൻഡ്രല കരഞ്ഞു. അവൾ അവളുടെ മരിച്ചുപോയ അമ്മയെ ഓർത്തു. അമ്മ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ അവളെ തീർച്ചയായും ഡാൻസ് പാർട്ടിക്ക് വിടുമായിരുന്നു.
പെട്ടെന്ന് ഫെയറികളുടെ രാജ്ഞി അവളുടെ മുൻപിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. ഫെയറി (സുന്ദരിയായ യക്ഷി) അവളോട് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ സിൻഡ ലയുടെ തലതൊട്ടമ്മയാണെന്ന്. സിൻഡലക്കും ഡാൻസിന് പോകാം. ഫെയറി അവളെ ഒരു മുറി യിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി. തോട്ടത്തിൽ പോയി ഒരു മത്തങ്ങ പറിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ഫെയറി അവളോട് പറഞ്ഞു. മത്തങ്ങയുടെ പുറത്ത് തന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന മാന്ത്രിക വടികൊണ്ട് ഫെയറി വീശിയപ്പോൾ ആ മത്തങ്ങ ഒരു ചുവന്ന രഥമായി മാറി. രഥം വലിക്കാൻ കുതിരകൾ വേണം. ഫെയറി പറഞ്ഞു വീടിന്റെ പുറകിൽ ഒരു എലിപ്പെട്ടി കാണും. അത് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരാൻ സിൻഡല അത് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അതിൽ ആറ് എലികളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഫെയറി ആ ആറ് എലികളേയും കുതിരകളാക്കി മാറ്റി.
ഫെയറി സിൻഡലയോട് പറഞ്ഞു. തോട്ട ത്തിൽ പോയി ആറ് പല്ലികളെ കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ. സിൻഡലെ ആറ് പല്ലികളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവരെ ഫെയറി സിൻഡലക്ക് അകമ്പടി സേവിക്കാനുള്ള സേവാക്കിമാറ്റി. അപ്പോൾ സിൻഡ്രല താൻ ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന മുഷിഞ്ഞു കീറിയ വസ്ത്രത്തിലേക്ക് നോക്കി. ഫെയറി അവ ളുടെ മാന്ത്രിക വടികൊണ്ട് ആ വസ്ത്രത്തിൽ തൊട്ടപ്പോൾ അത് സിൽക്കിലും സ്വർണ്ണത്തിലും നെയ്ത അതിമനോഹരമായ ഒരു ഉടുപ്പായി മാറി. അവളുടെ മുടിയിൽ വയ്ക്കാൻ രത്നങ്ങളും കാലിലിടാൻ രണ്ട് ഗ്ലാസ് ചെരുപ്പുകളും ഫെയ റികൊടുത്തു. സിൻഡലക്ക് ഡാൻസ് പാർട്ടിക്ക് പോകാം എന്ന് ഫെയറി പറഞ്ഞു. ഫെയറി ഒരു കാര്യം കൂടി പറഞ്ഞു ഈ മാജിക്കെല്ലാം രാത്രി 12 മണിയോടെ അവസാനിക്കും. അതിനുമുൻപ് തന്നെ വീട്ടിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തണമെന്ന്.
ദ് ബോൾ
സിൻ ഒരു രാജകുമാരിയെപ്പോലെയാണ് ഡാൻസ്പാർട്ടിക്ക് പോയത്. എത്ര സുന്ദരിയാണ് അവൾ എന്ന് എല്ലാവരും പറഞ്ഞു. രാജകുമാ രനും അവളെ പ്രത്യേകം നിരീക്ഷിച്ചു. അവളുടെ കൂടെ മാത്രമേ അവൻ ഡാൻസ് ചെയ്തുള്ളു. അവളുടെ സഹോദരിമാർക്ക് വലിയ അസൂയ തോന്നി. പക്ഷേ അവർക്കറിയില്ലായിരുന്ന ആ സുന്ദരിയായ രാജകുമാരി സിൻഡ്രലയായി രുന്നു എന്ന്. സന്തോഷത്തോടെ ഡാൻസ് ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അവൾ സമയം മറ ന്നുപോയി. അപ്പോഴേക്കും ക്ലോക്കിൽ മണി 12 അടിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ഫെയറിയുടെ വാക്കുകൾ അവൾ ഓർമ്മിച്ചു. പെട്ടെന്ന് തന്നെ രാജകുമാ രന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ കുമ്പിട്ടു കൊണ്ട് അവൾ അവിടെ നിന്നും ഓടി. വീട്ടിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവിടെ നടന്ന കാര്യമെല്ലാം അവൾ ഫെയറി തലതൊട്ട മ്മയോട് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു പിറ്റേ ദിവ സവും അവൾക്ക് ഡാൻസിനുപോകണം, രാജ കുമാരൻ അവളെ ക്ഷണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്ന്. അപ്പോ ഴേക്കും അവളുടെ സഹോദരിമാർ വാതിൽക്കൽ മുട്ടി. സിൻഡ്രല വാതിൽ തുറന്നു.
സിൻഡ്രല ഉറക്കത്തിൽ നിന്നും എഴുന്നേ റ്റുവന്നതുപോലെ അഭിനയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവർ എന്താണ് വൈകിയത് എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ അവർ പറഞ്ഞു അതിസുന്ദരിയായ ഒരു രാജകു മാരി ഡാൻസിന് വന്നിരുന്നു എന്നും രാജകുമാ രൻ അവളുടെ കൂടെ മാത്രമേ ഡാൻസ് ചെയ്തുള്ളു എന്നും. ആ രാജകുമാരിയുടെ പേരെന്താണ് എന്ന് സിൻഡല ചോദിച്ചു. അവർക്ക് ആ പേര് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു. സിൻഡ്രല പുഞ്ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞു ആ സുന്ദരിയെ അവൾക്കും കണ്ടാൽ കൊള്ളാമെ ന്ന്. എന്നിട്ട് സെൻഡല അവരിൽ ഒരുവളോട് അവൾ എന്നും ധരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു മഞ്ഞ ഉടുപ്പ് കടം കൊടുക്കാൻ അപേക്ഷിച്ചു. അത്രയും വൃത്തികെട്ട ഒരു പെണ്ണിന് ആ ഡ്രസ് കൊടു ക്കുകയില്ല എന്നായിരുന്നു ആ ക്രൂരയായ സഹോദരിയുടെ മറുപടി. സിൻഡല ഒഴികെ എല്ലാവരും ചിരിച്ചു.
പിറ്റേദിവസം ആ ക്രൂരയായ രണ്ട് സഹോദരി മാരും ഡാൻസിന് പോയി. സിൻഡ്രലയും പോയി. തലേ ദിവസത്തേക്കാളും കൂടുതൽ ഭംഗി യുള്ള ഡ്രസ്സാണ് സിൻഡ്രല ധരിച്ചിരുന്നത്. രാജകുമാരൻ എപ്പോഴും അവളെ പ്രശംസിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് അവളുടെ കൂടെ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. സന്തോഷാധിക്യം കൊണ്ട് സിൻഡ്രല സമയ പറ്റിയൊന്നും ഓർത്തില്ല. പെട്ടെന്നാണ് അവൾ 12 മണി അടിക്കുന്നത് കേട്ടത്. അവൾ ചാടി എണീറ്റ് ഒരു മാനിനെപോലെ പുറത്തേക്ക് ഓടി. കൃതിയിൽ അവളുടെ ഒരു ഗ്ലാസ്സ് ഷൂ ഡാൻസ് റൂമിൽ വീണുപോയി.
അവൾ രഥത്തിനടുത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോഴേക്കും 12 മണിയുടെ അവസാനം ഡിംഗ് ഡോംഗ് കേട്ടു. ആ നിമിഷം രഥം മത്തങ്ങയായി മാറി. കുതിര കൾ എലികളും, സേവകർ പല്ലികളുമായി. അവ ളുടെ ഉടുപ്പ് മുഷിഞ്ഞ് നാറിയ പഴയ ഉടുപ്പായി മാറി. പക്ഷേ അവളുടെ കാലിൽ കിടന്ന ഒരു ഗ്ലാസ് ഷൂ മാത്രം മാറിയില്ല. അവളുടെ സഹോ ദരിമാർ വരുന്നതിനുമുൻപ് തന്നെ അവൾ വീട്ടി ലെത്തി. അവർക്കറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു സിൻഡ ലയും ഡാൻസിന് പോയിരുന്നു എന്ന്.

സിൻഡ്രല പോയപ്പോൾ രാജകുമാരന് വലിയ ദുഃഖമായി. അവിടത്തെ പരിചാരകൻ അപ്പോ ഴേക്കും അവളുടെ ഗ്ലാസ് ഷൂ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് രാജകുമാരന്റെ അടുത്തു വന്നു. രാജകുമാരന് അറിയണമായിരുന്നു അയാളുടെ കൂടെ ഡാൻസ് ചെയ്ത ആ പെൺകുട്ടി ആരാണെന്ന്. അവളെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കാൻ രാജകുമാരൻ എല്ലാ വീടുകളി ലേക്കും പോകും എന്ന് വിളംബരം ചെയ്യാൻ അദ്ദേഹം സന്ദേശവാഹകരോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. എല്ലാ പെൺകുട്ടികൾക്കും സന്തോഷമായി. സിൻഡലയുടെ രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാർക്ക് പ്രത്യേക സന്തോഷം തോന്നി. ഏറ്റവും നല്ല ഉടുപ്പ് ധരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവർ രാജകുമാരനു വേണ്ടി കാത്തിരുന്നു. സിൻഡ്രലയ്ക്ക് മാറിയി ടാൻ ഒരു ഡ്രസ് പോലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.
രാജകുമാരൻ അവിവാഹിതയായ പെൺകുട്ടിക ളുള്ള എല്ലാ വീട്ടിലും പോയി. അദ്ദേഹം കൊണ്ടു വന്ന ഷൂകാലിലിട്ട് നോക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞു. എല്ലാ വരും പരിശ്രമിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ആരുടെ പാദവും ആ ഷൂവിന് യോജിച്ചതല്ലായിരുന്നു. അവസാനം രാജകുമാരൻ സിൻഡലയുടെ വീട്ടിലെത്തി. മൂത്തസഹോദരി തന്റെ മുറിയിൽ പോയി. ആ ഷൂ ഇടാൻ നോക്കി. അവളുടെ അമ്മ കൂടെയു ണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വളരെ പരിശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും അവളുടെ തള്ളവിരൽ ആ പൂവിൽ കയറുന്നില്ലായിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ അമ്മ ഒരു കത്തി അവളുടെ കയ്യിൽ കൊടുത്തിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ രാജ്ഞിയാകു മ്പോൾ അവൾക്ക് നടക്കേണ്ടി വരില്ല, അതു കൊണ്ട് തള്ളവിരൽ മുറിച്ച് മാറ്റാൻ. ആ കുട്ടി തള്ളവിരൽ മുറിച്ച് മാറ്റി കാൽ ഷൂവിലേക്ക് കയ റ്റി. വേദന സഹിച്ചാണെങ്കിലും അവൾ രാജകു മാരന്റെ മുന്നിൽ എത്തി. ഷൂവിന്റെ അടിയിൽ ചോര കിടക്കുന്നത് രാജകുമാരൻ കണ്ടു. അവ ളല്ല താൻ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നവൾ എന്ന് അവന് മനസ്സിലായി.
