Write down the thoughts of the old man. In the writing, include the following:
• How did the boy enjoy the company of the tree when he was small boy?
• How did the tree help the young man to buy the things he needed?
• How did the tree help him to build a house and a boat, and become a stump?
Answer:
I am very grateful to this tree. She has been helping me throughout my life. When I was a small boy she gave me leaves to make crowns. She gave me her shade to sleep when I was tired after playing. She allowed me to swing on her branches. When I needed money, she gave me her fruits to sell and get money. She gave me her branches to build my house and then she gave me her trunk to make a boat. Now she is just a stump and even now I am sitting on it and resting. All her life she helped me and she even gave me her life. She has never demanded anything in return. It is such a great sacrifice she has made and I will never forget her.

• What were the things she was carrying?
• About whom did the Little Train think then and what was her reaction?
Answer:
Oh My God! My wheels are not moving. What will I do now? My compartments are full of good things for boys and girls. There are all kinds of animals – giraffes with long necks, teddy bears with no necks and even a baby elephant. There are all kinds of dolls – dolls with blues eyes and yellow hair; dolls with brown eyes and brown hair; and the funniest toy clown you ever saw. There are toy trucks, airplanes, and boats. There are pictures books, games and drums to play. I am also carrying good things to eat – big round oranges; fat, red apples; long, yellow bananas. There is fresh cold milk. There are lollypops to eat after dinner. How happy the boys and girls would be to see me. If I don’t reach the other side of the mountain, the boys and girls waiting there will have nothing to eat and nothing to play with. How sad they will be! Oh God, help me to find a way to move forward and take the things to the eagerly waiting boys and girls.
