(This is the story of Vashti, a young girl, who believed that she could not draw pictures. Let’s see what happens in the end. )
The art class was finished. But Vashti remained sitting on her chair. Her paper was blank. The teacher looked at the blank paper and said that she was supposed to draw a polar bear in a storm. Vashti said she did not know how to draw. Her teacher smiled and told her to make a mark and see where it takes her. Vashti took her marker and made a dot on the paper.
The teacher took the paper and looked at it carefully. She made a sound showing her disappointment. She gave the paper back to Vashti and asked her to sign it. Vashti thought that she could not draw but she could sign her name. She signed the paper at the bottom. The Next week, Vashti entered the art room. She was surprised to see what was hanging above the teacher’s desk. It was the dot that she had drawn. It was framed in golden colour. Vashti thought she could make a better dot than that. She opened her set of water colours and began to work.
Vashti continued painting. A red dot, a purple dot, a yellow dot, a blue dot, the blue dot mixed with yellow. She discovered that she could make green dot. She kept experimenting with lots of small dots in many colours. Then she thought that if she could make small dots she could also make big dots.
She used a bigger paper and a bigger brush to make bigger dots. She even made a dot not by painting a dot. At the school art show a few weeks later, Vashti’s dots were a big hit. Vashti noticed a small boy looking at her. He told her that she was a great artist and he wished he could draw. Vashti told him he could do it. He said he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t draw even a straight line with a ruler.
Vashti smiled. She gave him a blank sheet of paper and asked him to draw. The pencil shook as he drew his line. Vashti looked at the boy’s irregular line. She asked him to sign the sheet at the bottom.

ആർട്ട് ക്ലാസ് അവസാനിച്ചു. പക്ഷേ വഷ്ടി അവളുടെ സീറ്റിൽ തന്നെ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അവളുടെ കയ്യിലുള്ള പേപ്പറിൽ ഒന്നും വരച്ചിട്ടില്ല. അവളുടെ ടീച്ചർ അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞു. കൊടു ങ്കാറ്റിൽ അകപ്പെട്ട ഒരു പോളാർ കരടിയുടെ ചിത്രമാണ് വരക്കേണ്ടതെന്ന്. വഷ്ടി പറഞ്ഞു അവൾക്ക് വരക്കാ നൊന്നും അറിയില്ലെന്ന്. ടീച്ചർ പുഞ്ചിരിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ട് അവളോട് പറഞ്ഞു അവളുടെ പേപ്പറിൽ ഒരു കുത്തിടാൻ. അപ്പോൾ അവൾക്കു മനസ്സിലാകും അത് എവിടം വരെ അവളെ കൊണ്ടുപോകുമെന്ന്. വഷ്ടി ഒരു മാർക്കർ എടുത്ത് അവളുടെ പേപ്പറിൽ ഒരു കുത്ത് ഇട്ടു.
ടീച്ചർ പേപ്പർ എടുത്തിട്ട് അതിൽ നല്ലപോലെ നോക്കി. അവർ ഒരു ശബ്ദമുണ്ടാക്കി, തൃപ്തിയില്ലാത്തതുപോ ലെ. അവർ ആ ഷീറ്റ് വഷ്ടിച്ചു തിരിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു കൊണ്ട് അതിൽ ഒപ്പു വക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ ഷീറ്റിന്റെ താഴെ ഒപ്പിട്ടു. അടുത്തയാഴ്ച വഷ്ടി ആർട്ട് റൂമിൽ കയറി. ടീച്ചറിന്റെ ഡെസ്കിന്റെ മുകളിൽ മതിലിൽ തൂക്കി യിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ചിത്രം കണ്ട് അവൾ അത്ഭുതപ്പെട്ടു. അവർ വരച്ചു കൊടുത്ത ഡോട്ടായിരുന്നു അത്. അത് ഗോൾഡൻ കളറുള്ള ഫ്രെയിമിൽ വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ വഷ്ടി വിചാരിച്ചു അതിലും നല്ല ഒരു ഡോട്ട് അവൾക്കു വരക്കാമല്ലോ എന്ന്. അവൾ അവളുടെ വാട്ടർ കളറുകളുടെ സെറ്റു തുറന്നു. ജോലി തുടങ്ങി.
