Imagine you had a doll at home. How did you take care of it?
Answer:
I had a doll when in was in class 5. I had given it a name – Cutie. I loved Cutie very much. Whenever I was at home she was always with me. I used to give her a bath every morning soon after I took my own bath. I combed her hair, put powder on her face, and even coloured her lips with lipsticks. I also fed her regularly. I told the stories my grandma used to tell me when she was alive. In the evening I spent quite some time playing with my doll. At times my mother scolded me for spending too much time with the doll. But I could not think of keeping it away from me when I was at home. Even when I sat down for studies, I kept Cutie near me. At night after saying my prayers, I used to sing lullabies to make Cutie sleep beside me.
A Doll’s Journey Class 7 Question Answer
Question 1.
What did Kafka promise the girl?
Answer:
Kafka promised the girl to join her the following day in her search for her lost doll.
Question 2.
Why was the girl moody?
Answer:
The girl was moody because although she was getting letters from her missing doll she was not able to see her.
Question 3.
“There were no letters for some days.” Why?
Answer:
This was part of a plan by Kafka. Kafka would later tell the girl that the doll was too busy in her preparations for her wedding and so she did not have the time to write letters.
Question 4.
Do you like the ending of the story? Suggest another ending.
Answer:
No, I do not like the ending of the story. I would end the story by the doll sending the girl a letter and another doll, quite similar to her, saying that since she was getting married she will have to live with her husband and she was thankful to the girl for all the love and care she had shown her when she was with her.

She says it contains the world’s most iconic pieces paintings, sculptures by the most famous people like Michael Angelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. It has architectural elements and art objects by other famous or anonymous artists of many different regions and eras. It is all good for her. But I feel so sad without her. Imagine you are Irma and write a reply to Levi
Answer:
25A Frederick Street
Berlin – 4A-VI
25 July 1923
Dearest Levi,
I got your letter. Thanks. Yes, I have been getting your letters and reading them and enjoying them. I am happy to know you are enjoying your trip around the world.
You said I had been giving you motherly love by bathing, dressing and feeding you and carrying you in my arms. Yes, I made a bed for you and even I sang lullabies to make you sleep. Yes, I was always busy making new clothes for you and taking you everywhere I went. I did all that because I had not only loved you as a mother but also as a companion. I don’t know how you suddenly decided to go for a trip around the world without telling me. I was so worried about you and I went about looking in the park from where you had gone away. A gentleman named Kafka was helping me in my search. He consoled me saying that you will be found. And then came your first letter which made me happy. I would certainly like to be with you. But as you know my parents are not so rich as to give me enough money for a trip around the world. So I request you to come back to me as early as possible. I really miss you, Levi! Every day I pray for you. Please do come back!
Yours lovingly,
Irma
Std 7 English A Doll’s Journey Question Answer – Activity :6
What if Irma were living in our times? Close your book and listen to your teacher.
Irma loved spending time with her friends. In the evening she would go cycling. She could ride for a long time without getting tired. Early in the morning she would have great fun drawing and painting. But everything changed when she got a smartphone for her birthday.
At first, Irma used her phone for talking to her friends and taking photos. But as time went on, she found she could not take her eyes off the screen. Once she started using her smartphone, she would scroll through social media, watch videos, and play games for hours. Often she could not help reaching for her phone even when she was busy with other things.
Irma’s mother noticed this and she thought Irma should not let herself be carried away by the smartphone. Spending time outdoors and enjoying real-life moments should be just as important as the digital world to her.

Activity: 7
This activity is about Relative Pronouns. A Relative Pronoun has two functions. It acts as a pronoun and it joins sentences. For people we use “who’ and ‘that’. For things we use ‘which’ and ‘that’.
Read the following sentences taken from the story. Notice the words in italics.
1. He met a girl who was crying because she had lost her favourite doll.
2. Kafka had prepared the letter which was meant to be from the doll.
Now read this poem.
They kept their streets so clean and nice,
With actions that were truly wise.
There was a boy named Jack, who led the way,
Picking up litter every single day.
He knew that a clean town brings cheer,
So he worked hard to keep it clear.
And then there was Lucy, who had a knack,
For using less plastic and cutting back.
She carried a bottle that she’d always fill,
Choosing to help, rather than just chill.
In the park, they found a spot,
A secret garden that meant a lot.
Plants and flowers, which they adored,
They cared for each, their spirits soared.
