Prepare a speech.
6th Standard English Annual Term Question Paper 2023-24 Kerala Syllabus 3
Answer:
Hon. Principal, Respected teachers and my dear friends, I feel highly grateful to you for organising this meeting to congratulate me. I was very glad to receive the Award for Bravery from the President of India. 1 don’t know if I merited such an Award because what I did was saving my cousin Aman from drowning. Anybody would have done the same in such a situation.

It is true that my cousins, Ranjit and Aman, did not want to take me with them. They thought I did not have any particular style of swimming like them. Moreover I did not have a swimming costume and so I was sitting on a rock near the river Yamuna and reading something when my cousins and their friends went for swimming in the river.
Aman was soon carried away by the current but nobody was willing to go and help him as they were afraid. But I soon jumped into the river and was able to rescue him. Then they realised that what is important is not the style of swimming but competence in it.

I recommend that all of you learn swimming. It is good for health and also a good pastime. It will be useful to you in life especially when you are required to travel in boats.
I once again thank you for the love you are showering on me.

Activity V – Thoughts

The Prince married Chinderella and took her to the palace. She pardoned her stepmother and her sisters. She took them all to the pal-ace with her. The stepmother , felt sorry for treating Cinderella badly.

Write the thoughts of the stepmother.
Answer:
I should not have treated Cinderella so cruelly. When my daughters took away Cinderella’s good dresses and made her wear wooden shoes, I should have stopped them from doing such bad things to Cinderella. I should not have made Cinderella work at home from morning till night. She had to get up early in the morning, make the fire, cook and wash. I did not even give her a bed to sleep comfortably. The poor girl was resting on the hearth among cinders. I should have allowed Cinderella to go to the dance when she begged me to allow her. But I was too selfish and wanted only my daughters go for the dance. But God is great.

He worked a miracle by sending a godmother to Cinderella and making her ready for the dance with the Prince. Even when the Prince came to our house to see whose shoe was lost during the party, I refused to let Cinderella try the shoe. Here again the godmother helped her. The Prince takes her to the palace to make her his bride. And how graciously she behaved! She forgave my daughters and me in spite of all the mistreatments we gave her. Cinderella is really a great girl. I have learned my lesson. God rewards those who are good. From now on, I will be a loving mother to Cinderella.

Activity – II Thoughts

Read the passage taken from the story “A Glass of Milk”

Years later, that woman became old and critically ill with an unknown disease. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he realised her and the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Dressed in his doctors gown he went in to see her.

What would be the thoughts of Dr. Howard Kelly when he saw the woman?
Answer:
Isn’t this the woman who gave me a glass of milk when I asked her for some water? Yes, it is she. I remember that day. I was a poor boy. I was selling goods from door to door to pay my way through school. It was a hot day and I felt tired and hungry. I had only a dime in my pocket. I decided to ask for a meal when I went to the next house. But I lost my nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of asking for a meal, I asked her to give me some water. Maybe, she realised I was hungry and so she brought me a large glass of milk. After drinking it, when I asked her how much I had to pay she told me I don’t have to pay anything. She was so kind. How would be the news report?
Answer:
Ranjit and Aman are brothers and Radha is their cousin. Radha is from a village but the boys live in Delhi. Radha had come to their house to spend the summer vacation. Once, the father of Ranjit and Aman took the three of them to the Yamuna River for a picnic. The boys had also their friends with them. The boys were swimming and enjoying in the river. Radha did not swim because she did not have a swimming suit. But she knew swimming very well as she lived near the banks of the Sarayu River. When Radha saw that Aman was going too close to a big boulder, where the current was very fast, she warned him not to swim there. Not listening to her advice, he swims there and is carried away by the swift current. His life is in danger. Ranjit and the friends scream, but none has the courage to jump into the current and save Aman. Radha jumps into the river and with great difficulty she reaches Aman. She asks him to hold around her waist and paddle with his legs. She and Aman reach the shore safely. The boys were boasting of different styles of swimming- freestyle, butterfly stroke, breast stroke, etc. but it was Radha who did not know all these styles that saved Aman from drowning.

Activity – V Description

You have read the story of Dr. Kelly, haven’t you? It teaches us human qualities like mercy, kindness, love etc.
Describe the personal qualities of Dr. Howard Kelly.
Answer:
Dr. Howard Kelly was a poor boy. He was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school. It was a hot day and he felt tired and hungry. He had only a dime in his pocket. He decided to ask for a meal when he went to the next house. But he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of asking for a meal he asked her to give him some water. Maybe, she realised he was hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. After drinking it, when he asked her how much he has to pay she told him he doesn’t have to pay anything.

Kelly remembered her kindness. Later this woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. She was then sent to the big city where Dr. Kelly, the specialist, was called for consultation. When he saw her, he knew it was the woman who had given him a glass of milk when he was a poor boy. He treats her and she is cured. She is worried that she has to pay a huge bill. But Dr. Kelly gets the bill before it is sent to her. He writes on the bill “Paid in full with one glass of milk”. She was happy and she thanked God.

It shows Dr. Kelly never forgot the good deed she had done. Gratitude is a great virtue. From a poor boy he became a specialist doctor but he remembered his old days and the help he had received.

Answer:
I was thinking I am a great swimmer and I can swim in any difficult situation and reach safety. But how grossly was I mistaken! If Radha had not come to my rescue I would have been dead by now. And look at my brother and our friends. None of them dared to jump into the current to save me. But Radha did. She did not even have a swimming costume. She just removed her shoes and jumped into the swift current with her salwar- kurta and saved me from drowning. We were not willing to take her to the club for swimming as she had no swimming costume. We laughed at her saying that she did not know the different styles of swimming – breast stroke, butterfly stoke and free stroke. I knew all these but they did not help me in my need. Radha did not know all these different styles but she knew how to swim against the current and that is how she saved me. I will apologise to her and ask her to teach me the way she swims so confidently.

Indian Economy Through Various Sectors Notes Class 9 Geography Chapter 5 Kerala Syllabus Questions and Answers 4
a. Which are the sectors helped by the primary sector? What are they? Name them.
b. What are the assistance received by the primary sector from the other sectors?
c. How are the Primary, Secondary and tertiary sectors mutually related?
Answer:
a. Extraction of natural resources, such as farming, fishing, mining, and forestry, is the primary sector’s responsibility. By supplying raw resources, this sector supports other sectors.

  • Secondary Sector (Manufacturing): Uses raw materials from the primary sector to make products. For example, factories turn cotton into clothes or iron ore into steel.
  • Tertiary Sector (Services): Depends on the primary sector for goods that are sold or transported.

Indian Economy Through Various Sectors Notes Class 9 Geography Chapter 5 Kerala Syllabus Questions and Answers

b. The primary sector (farming, fishing, mining) gets help from other sectors:

From the Secondary Sector:

  • Machines and Tools: Factories make tractors, harvesters, and other equipment that help farmers and miners do their work.
  • Fertilisers and Chemicals: Factories produce fertilisers and pesticides that help crops grow better.

From the Tertiary Sector:

  • Transport: Trucks and trains help to move products like crops or minerals to markets or factories.
  • Banking: Banks give loans or insurance to help farmers and miners invest in their businesses.
  • Marketing: Shops and services help farmers sell their products to people.

So, the primary sector gets tools, services, and support to work better and sell their products.

c. The primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors all depend on each other. The primary sector (farming, mining, fishing) provides the basic raw materials like food, minerals, and other natural resources. The secondary sector (factories) takes these raw materials and turns them into products, like making bread from wheat or cars from steel.

The tertiary sector (services) helps by selling these products, transporting them, and offering support like banking and technology. Each sector relies on the others. Without raw materials, factories can’t make products, and without services, the products can’t be sold or delivered to people. Together, they keep the economy running.

NNP (Net National Product) is important because it shows the actual value of goods and services produced by a country after accounting for the wear and tear (depreciation) of assets like machinery, buildings, and equipment.

Question 9.
What will happen to Percapita income if the population of a country increases more than the national income?
Answer:
The Per Capita income will decrease, if the population of a country increases more than its national income. This is because per capita income is calculated by dividing the total national income by the total population.

Indian Economy Through Various Sectors Notes Class 9 Geography Chapter 5 Kerala Syllabus Questions and Answers

Question 10.
What happens to the Percapita income when the income of only a small segment of population increases? Discuss the consequence of such a change and prepare a brief note.
Answer:
Enhanced Inequality: The wealth disparity may expand. While a small percentage of people might become extremely wealthy, the majority might continue to live in poverty. Dissatisfaction and societal tensions may result from this.

Limited Economic Growth: If most people don’t have more money, they won’t spend as much on goods and services. This can slow down overall economic growth, as businesses depend on customer spending.

Less Access to Services: When only a few people are earning more, there may be less investment in public services like education and healthcare, which can affect the overall well-being of the population.
