Answer:
Tyl describes himself as a Flemish painter. He is very slim and looks like a skeleton. He is very ambitious and he is aspiring to become the court painter in the Battenburg Archduke’s palace. He always wears a cap with some feathers. He is cunning and tricky. It is his poverty that brings him to the palace. He feels confident of his ability. Tyl is a very chatty individual, but he has a firm grasp on how to communicate his opinions to the Archduke. The Archduke wanted a portrait of his as a memory to his descendants. Tyl then suggested that it is better to paint the Archduke with his courtiers. When the courtiers came to know that they too would be in the painting, they asked Tyl to paint them smarter and more good looking than they really are. They threatened to kill him if their pictures were not better than they are. But the Archduke wanted them to be painted as they are. Tyl was in a dilemma. If he paints the courtiers as they are, they will kill him. If he paints them more good looking than they are, the Archduke will kill him. So he played a trick. He said he has painted the picture on the wall but only those persons with noble blood in their veins can see the picture. But actually he had not drawn anything! It was a blank wall.

Penguins are birds, but unlike most birds they cannot fly. They are one of about 40 species of flightless birds. Most penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere. No penguins live in the North Pole.
They are very social and live in colonies. They are great swimmers who use their wings like paddles to swim through the water. They can stay underwater for 10-15 minutes before coming to the surface to breath. They cannot breathe under water.
Their feet are small so that they don’t lose too much heat as they stand on the ice. They help each other stay warm by gathering together and shuffling around. Their main diet is fish and krill. They swallow pebbles as well as their food. It is believed that the stones may help grind up and digest their food.
They can drink seawater because they have a special gland that filters salt from the bloodstream.
Their colours help them to be camouflaged while swimming. From above, their black backs blend into the dark ocean and from below, their white bellies match the bright surface. This helps them avoid predators.
Once a year, penguins molt. Most birds will lose a few feathers at a time throughout the year, but penguins lose all their feathers at once. They cannot swim without features, so they eat a lot more before they molt to survive the 2-3 weeks it takes for their feathers to grow back.

Question 16.
The writer E.V. Lucas was thoroughly impressed by the educational system run by Miss. Beam in her school. He decides to write a letter of appreciation to Miss Beam after visiting her school. Prepare the likely letter.
Answer:
E. V. Lucas
21 /XX, Queen’s Street
London
2 July 2022
Dear Ms. Beam,
I was indeed fortunate to visit your school where the educational system impressed me as unique. I found the teaching methods used there to be quite different from other schools. You teach only those things that are simple and useful to pupils. The rest was taught by giving them interesting tasks.
What impressed me most was the practice of your school where students had to take an exercise of going through a blind day, lame day, dumb day and deaf day. This helped them to realise first-hand the experiences about the life of the physically challenged people, their difficulties, their special physical, psychological and emotional needs and to generate empathy and, a sense of special responsibility towards them. I think it is a wonderful start in humanizing the youth.
I heartily congratulate you from the core of my heart. I will do my best to spread your message through my writings.
Yours sincerely,
Sd/-
(E.V. Lucas)

Question 17.
Shylock lent Antonio three thousand ducats. Antonia failed to pay the debt. Portia rescued Antonia from the punishment. Prepare a paragraph on how Portia rescued Antonio from the cruelty of Shylock.
Answer:
Shylock, a Jew, hated Antonio, a Christian. He hated Antonio for many reasons. Shylock was a money lender and gave loans to people on high interest. But Antonio gave loans without charging any interest. This adversely affected Shylock’s business. Secondly Antonio used to insult Shylock in public places. Thirdly, Shylock’s daughter Jessica has run away with a Christian named Lorenzo. Shylock lends 3000 ducats to Antonio on the condition that if the money is not repaid by a certain date he will have the right to cut off a pound of flesh from any part of Antonio’s body. Antonio is not able to pay the debt in time and so he is taken to court. Portia comes to know of it. So she comes in disguise, as a lawyer, to help Antonio. First she pleads for mercy. But Shylock rejects her pleas. He is sharpening his knife to cut off the pound of flesh from Antonio. Then suddenly she comes up with an argument that surprises everyone. She says that in the bond signed it says only a pound of flesh. So while cutting the fresh, no drop of blood should be shed. Moreover Shylock should cut off just one pound of flesh – not a gram more or less. Through these arguments, Portia rescues Antonio. Shylock is also seriously punished as he planned to murder a Venetian citizen.

Question 29.
Prepare a brief explanation about the operators in Java Script.
Answer:
Operators are the symbols used to perform an operation
1. Arithmetic operators
It is a binary operator. It is used to perform addition(+), subtraction(-), division(/), multiplication(*), modulus (%-gives the remainder) ,increment(++) and decrement-Operations.
Eg. If x= 10 and y=3 then

x+y x-y x*y x/y x%y
13 7 30 3.333 1

If x=10 then
document.write(++x); -> It prints 10+1=11
If x=10then
document.write(x++); -> It prints 10 itself.
If x=10then
document.write(-x); It prints 10-1=9
If x=10then
document.write(x-);-> It prints 10 itself.

2. Assignment operators
If a = 10 and b = 3 then a = b. This statement sets the value of a and b are same, i.e. it sets a to 3.
It is also called short hands
If X = 10 and Y = 3 then

Arithmetic Assignment Expression Equivalent Arithmetic Expression The value of X becomes
X+=Y X=X+Y 13
X-=Y X=X-Y 7
X*=Y X=X*Y 30
X/=Y X=X/Y 3.333
X%=Y X=X%Y 1

3. Relational(Comparison) operators
It is used to perform comparison or relational operation between two values and returns either true or false. Eg:
If X=10 and Y=3 then

X<Y X<=Y X>Y X>=Y X==Y X!=Y
false false true true false true

4. Logical operators uaope
Here AND(&&),, OR(||) are binary operators and NOT(!) is a unary operator. It is used to combine relational operations and it gives either true or false If X=true and Y=false then

X&&X X && Y Y&&X Y&& Y
true false False false

Both operands must be true to get a true value in the case of AND(&&) operation If X=true and Y=false then

X || X X || Y Y || X Y || Y
true true true false

Either one of the operands must be true to get a true value in the case of OR(||) operation
If X= true and Y=false then

!X !Y
false true

5. String addition operator(+)
This is also called concatenation operator. It joins(concatenates) two strings and forms a string.
Eg:
var x,y,z;
x = “BVM HSS
y = “Kalparamba”;
z = x+y;
• Here the variable z becomes “BVM HSS Kalparamba”.
Note: If both the operands are numbers then addition operator(+) produces number as a result otherwise it produces string as a result.
Consider the following

Operand 1 data type Operand 2 data type Operation Resultant data type
number number +(addition) number
number string string
string number string
string string string

Eg:

  1. 8(number) + 3(number)=11 (Result is a number)
  2. 8 (number)+ “3”( string) = “83” (Result is a string)
  3. “8” (string) + 3 (number) = “83”(Result is a string)
  4. “8” (string) + “3” (string) = “83″ (Result is a string)

Question 31.
Write a brief explanation about three types of web hosting.
Answer:
Types of web hosting : Various types of web hosting services are available. We can choose the web hosting services according to our needs depends upon the storage space needed for hosting, the number-of visitors expected to visit, etc.

1) Shared Hosting : This type of hosting sharing resources, like memory , disk space and CPU hence the name shared. Several websites share the same server. This is suitable for small websites that have less traffic and it is not suitable for large websites that have large bandwidth, large storage space and have large volume of traffic.
Eg: Shared hosting is very similar to living in an Apartment(Villas) complex. All residents are in the same location and must share the available resources(Car parking area, Swimming pool, Gymnasium, play ground, etc) with every one.

2) Dedicated Hosting : A web server and its resources are exclusively for one website that have large volume of traffic means large volume of requests by the visitors. Some Govt, departments or large organizations require uninterrupted services for that round the clock power supply is needed. It is too expensive but it is more reliable and provide good service to the public.
Eg: It is similar to living in an Our own house. All the resources in your house is only for you. No one else’s account resides on the computer and would not be capable of tapping into your resourses.

3) Virtual Private Server (VPS): A VPS is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting Service. A VPS runs its own copy of an OS (Operating System) and customers have super level access to that OS instance, so they can install almost any s/w that runs on that OS. This type is suitable for websites that require more features than shared hosting but less features than dedicated hosting.
Eg: It is similar to owning a Condo

Rosy and Lilly are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 7 : 5. They admit Jhinsi as a new partner for \(\frac{1}{6}\) share which she acquired \(\frac{1}{24}\) from Rosy and \(\frac{1}{8}\) from Lilly. Calculate the New Profit Sharing Ratio of Rosy, Lilly, and Jhinsi.
Answer:
Calculation of new profit sharing ratio:
Old ratio = 7 : 5
Jhinsi’s Share= \(\frac{1}{6}\) which she acquired \(\frac{1}{24}\) from Rosy and \(\frac{1}{8}\) from Lilly.
So Rosy’s new share = Rosy’s old share – Share acquired by Jhinsi
= \(\frac{7}{12}\) – \(\frac{1}{24}\)
= \(\frac{13}{24}\)
Lilly’s new share = Lilly’s old share – Lilly’s share acquired by Jhinsi
\(\frac{5}{12}-\frac{1}{8}=\frac{10-3}{24}=\frac{7}{24}\)
Jhinsi’s share = \(\frac{1}{6}\) or \(\frac{4}{24}\)

Goodwill = Average profit × 2 Years Purchase of average profit
= 2 × 20000
= 40,000

(b) Super Profit = Actual or Average Profit – Normal Profit
Normal Profit = Capital Employed × Normal Rate of return
= 1,00,000 × 10%
= 10,000
Super Profit = 20,000 – 10,000 = 10,000
Goodwill = Super Profit × 3 years purchase of super profit

Working Note:
Calculation of Sacrificing Ratio:
Old Ratio = 5 : 3
New Ratio = 7 : 5 : 4
Sacrificing Ratio = Old Share – New Share
Arun’s sacrifice = \(\frac{5}{8}\) – \(\frac{7}{16}\) or \(\frac{10}{16}\) – \(\frac{7}{16}\) = \(\frac{3}{16}\)
Varun’s sacrifice = \(\frac{3}{8}\) – \(\frac{5}{16}\) or \(\frac{6}{16}\) – \(\frac{5}{16}\) = \(\frac{1}{16}\)
Sacrificing ratio of Arun and Varun = 3 : 1
Arun’s share of goodwill = 40,000 × \(\frac{3}{4}\) = 30,000
Varun’s share of goodwill = 40,000 × \(\frac{1}{4}\) = 10,000

Question 1.
Answer:

Question 2.
Answer:

Question 3.
Answer:

Question 4.
Answer:

Some Govt, departments or large organizations require uninterrupted services for that round the clock power supply is needed. It is too expensive but it is more reliable and provide good service to the public.

3) Virtual Private Server (VPS): A VPS is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting Service. A VPS runs its own copy of an OS (Operating System) and customers have super level access to that OS instance, so they can install almost any s/w that runs on that OS. Question 36.
Explain the advantages of DBMS.
Answer:
Advantages of DBMS

  1. Data Redundancy – It means duplication of data. DBMS eliminates redundancy. DBMS does not store more than one copy of the same data.
  2. Inconsistency can be avoided – If redundancy occurs there is a chance to inconsistency. If redundancy is removed then inconsistency cannot occur.
  3. Data can be shared – The data stored in the database can be shared by the users or programs.
  4. Standards can be enforced – The data in the database follows some standards. Eg : a field ‘Name’ should have 40 characters long. Some standards are ANSI, ISO, etc.
  5. Security restrictions can be applied – The data is of great value so it must be kept secure and private. Data security means the protection of data against accidental or intentional disclosure or unauthorized destruction or modification by unauthorized person.
  6. Integrity can be maintained – It ensures that the data is to be entered in the databse Is correct.
  7. Efficient data access – It stored huge amount of data efficiently and can be retrieved whenever a need arise.
  8. Crash recovery – Some times all or a portion of the data is lost when a system crashes. A good DBMS helps to recover data after the system crashed.
