Thank you

Dear Coach

It was solely because of your training that I won the District Inter-school Badminton Championship this year. I dedicate my trophy to you, Sir.

You took so much of trouble to train me. In fact I was a bit lazy and about my training. But your words of encouragement helped me to realise that I can make a good fight in any competition. You told me winning is not everything, but participation is the important things. It was you who detected my talent for playing badminton. I will never forget your help. Please continue coaching me and guiding me so that I can conquer greater heights.

A Friend Like Simon Summary in English

My name is Mathew. I want to tell you a story about a friend of mine. His name is Simon. He joined my school last year. I remember his first day very well.
A Friend Like Simon Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 1

A Friend Like Simon Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

When I came to the door of my classroom, Simon’s mum gave me a big smile. She told me she was happy to see me and asked Simon to say Hello to me. But Simon turned away and looked at the ground.

Our teacher told us that Simon would be joining our class that year. He would take part in most of our lessons. Sometimes he would get help from a special teacher also.

I thought Simon would like our school much. It is really a great school, except for a girl named Hettie. I call her Horrible Hettie. She always pushed her way to the front of the queue at lunch. She would say she was next when it was someone else’s turn. She would then make a horrible face.

Every day after taking our lunch my friends and I went out to the school yard and make up new fun games. On Simon’s first day I asked him if he wanted to join us. But he wanted to be on his own.
A Friend Like Simon Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 2

As time passed, I noticed that Simon acted differently from the other students in the class. He would often get upset by something very small, like someone bumping into him by accident. No one knew why he was so and what upset him. He liked to arrange his books and pencils on his desk the same way every day. He did not like when anything changed.

Sometime he got upset about the school bell ringing or moving from his seat. As he was different from others, I stopped asking him to take part in games. Sometimes I was annoyed when the teacher tried to make him join in. I was not sure if I wanted a friend like Simon.

Then the big school trip to the funfair came. All the students had to pair up with someone sit with on the bus. The teacher suggested I should pair up with Simon. So we sat together. Simon took out his sandwiches. When I asked him if he liked sandwiches he asked me the same question and gave me his lunchbox to me to share the sandwiches. I thanked him. He was busy looking out of the window.

Later that day Simon and I were waiting in the queue for our ice-cream. Horrible Hettie marched over to the ice-cream van. “I’m next” she said in a mean voice. She pushed her way in front of us to the top of the queue. Simon shouted “NO!” Hettie got such a fright her pigtails flew up in the air! She quickly turned around ran off. I thanked Simon. He just looked up at the light.

After that I always asked Simon if he wanted to have lunch with me or play a game during break time. Some days he joined. But on other days he wanted to be on his own.

The other boys and girls soon learned to understand Simon better. Sometimes he acted a little different from us. He did not have much to say. But he was just like the others in our school. We learned a big lesson from Simon. Only Horrible Hettie would leave out someone because they were different from us.

Simon also showed me how great it is to have a friend like him. Do you have a friend like Simon? Why don’t you tell me your story?

A Friend Like Simon Summary in Malayalam

A Friend Like Simon Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

A Friend Like Simon Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 3

Six Dots Summary in English

My life changed that day. I had been playing with Papa’s awl. It proved too sharp for my eyes. Papa scolded me saying I was careless. A healer bandaged my eye. But the bandage itched so much! My hands were small and quick. I could not keep them away from my eyes. I did not mean to make thing worse. But I did.
Six Dots Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 1

The infection spread to my other eye. Now I could not see at all. No trees, no sparrows, no faces, no loaves of bread. By the time I was 5, I was completely blind.

My world was dark and dangerous. I stumbled about the house, banging into the chairs, the walls, and the door. My body ached. For me there was no sun. I sat by the window, training my ears to do what my eyes could not. I could hear sounds from papa’s shop. I could hear the “swoosh- swish, swoosh-swish” of ladies going to the market. I could hear the soldiers marching and the angry dog’s “Grrrrrr” from the neighbour’s house. My family did what they could. Papa made a wooden cane.

Six Dots Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

Each day I walked a little, counting the steps between the house and the garden, the vineyard and chicken coop, the baker’s and the miller’s, and back to Papa’s shop.

My brother taught me to whistle. When the sound echoed back, it warned me of things in my path. My sisters made a straw alphabet to feel and read. Papa made letters of the alphabet for me with leather strips or by pounding round-topped nails into boards. With Maman I played dominoes, counting the dots with my fingertips.

The village priest taught me to recognise trees by their touch, flowers by heir scent, and birds by their song. I asked him if he had books for the blind. He said he didn’t. When I was older I went to school with the other village children. All day they wrote down words and numbers or read aloud from printed pages. I sat in the front row, listening and memorising. I asked my teacher if he had books for blind children. He did not have and he said he was sorry. I didn’t want people to feel sorry for me. I just wanted to read and write on my own, like everyone else.

That was when a neighbour of mine, a Marquise with influence, got me admitted to the Royal School for the Blind in Paris. I was happy. I was told there would be books for the blind in the school. But Maman thought I was too young to be away from home. I was only 10. I then told my Maman and Papa that I loved them but I must go.

At the school for the blind, a guide led me to the library. He taught me to “read” by tracing the raised letters on a board with my fingers. My fingers traced each letter, just as I had done with letters Papa made for me at home. But the board was long: The letters were too large. I had to turn the page after just a few sentences. The words were as large as my hand. A sentence took up half a page. I felt sad. Even if I had read a hundred books like this, how much could I learn?

The next day the Headmaster called a meeting. Every student gathered in a big room. Dr. Pignier, the Headmaster, told us that a French army captain has invented a code to send secret messages during war. The code is read by touch. So we could use it here. He continued” “You are each holding a message, written with patterns of dots. Each pattern stands for a sound, such as “ou” or “ch”.

We listened. It was not easy. There was much to remember. On my paper, I moved my fingers from left to right feeling the dots. “Fall back!” I suddenly shouted with excitement. Everyone laughed at my battle order. But I had much hope. I asked for another paper. I touched the dots and read, “Supplies arrive at dawn”. The others shouted out their message, too.

The Headmaster taught me to make dot patterns with a stylus on a paper kept under a wooden frame. I made a few of the dot patterns, and then flipped the paper to read them by touch. For many weeks I practised.

The code was different from the normal alphabet. The code stood for sounds, letters. I thought we should be able to spell words and write sentences like people with eyesight. I began to work on that idea.

I worked late into the night when others slept. I punched the pages. I tried different ways to simplify the captain’s code. I worked until my back was stiff and my fingers ached. Years passed. I turned 15. I was often sick, but I would not rest. Finally it was ready to test. I asked the headmaster to choose a book from his own library, a book I had never heard before. I asked him to read it aloud. Dr. Pignier began. After a few minutes I told him to read faster. As he read I copied the words, spelling each one correctly. My new code used just 6 dots, arranged in two columns, like dominoes. Each dot pattern stood for a letter of the alphabet.

The Headmaster stopped reading when he came to the end of the chapter. I turned my pages over. Reading by touch, I recited the entire chapter. “You did it.” the Headmaster shouted. Word spread quickly. The other students rushed to try it. They said it as easy and fast. Now they could read and write like everyone else.

Six Dots Summary in Malayalam

Six Dots Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 3

Six Dots Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

Meteor loves the feeling of weightlessness. The commander says Meteor is a natural, live mousetronaut. Meteor is taken from the cage and gets a tour of the shuttle. He can even see the Earth in the distance. The astronauts are all very busy during the 14-day flight. There are space walks to take, and experiments to conduct. But what can Meteor do to help?
Mousetronaut Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 2

Then, while answering e-mails, one of the astronauts notices the key to the control panel is stuck between the monitors. When he tries to get it out, it gets wedged farther down. The commander wants the key back. One astronaut tries to move the monitor. It does not budge.

Another slips her fingers into the crack, but the key is stuck down too deep. One tries to push it out with piece of metal, but does not succeed. No one can reach it. The astronauts are worried. As they discuss the problem, Meteor has an idea. He thinks he can be useful on this flight. He squeezes his way into the crack. The space is dark and cramped, but he sees the key and pulls it with all his strength. The commander is happy to see that the key has come up again. He says, “Our tiny friend saved the mission.”

When the shuttle returns to the earth, Meteor is declared a hero. He is given a brand-new uniform, and an official title – Mousetronaut. All the astronauts cheer and applaud. But Meteor is thinking of his next big mission.

Class 6 English The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary in English

Malawi is a poor country in Africa. In a small village there, people had no money for lighting their homes. So the villagers, most of them farmers, went to bed as soon as night fell. But for young William darkness was a time for dreams. He dreamed of putting things together and taking them apart.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 1

He kept toy trucks with wheels made of bottle-caps under his bed. He was fascinated by the music he heard on the radio. He used to wonder where the musicians and singers were. He would crack open an old radio to find them.

As he lay awake, his grandpa’s tale of magic flashed through his mind. Ghost dancers in the stories seemed to twirl before his eyes.

As William worked in the fields at dawn, he imagined seeing magical beings among the rows of maize. As trucks moved across the path, he wondered how their engines made them go. “Look where you throw your hoe,” his father would shout shaking him into reality.

The magical beings of William’s imagination could not bring rain. The angry sun scorched the fields. The farmers’ prayers for rains were not answered. The rows of maize turned into dust. Without food, Malawi began to starve. William’s father told his children that from then on they would eat only one meal a day.

In the evenings, they sat around the lantern and ate their handful of food, watching hungry people move like spirits along the roads.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

Money also disappeared with the rain. Only a few lucky children could go to school. William was one of the dropouts. For weeks he sulked under a mango tree. Then he remembered a library down the road. There he found science books filled with fine pictures. He started reading. Soon he learned how engines moved the big trucks and how radios pulled music from the sky.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 2

What attracted him most was the picture of a machine taller than the tallest tree he had seen. It had huge blades like a fan. It looked like a giant pinwheel. He learned that it was a machine that produced electricity and pumped water.

He closed his eyes. He imagined the machine drawing cool water from the ground. The water gushed through the thirsty fields turning the maize tall and green. The windmill was more than a machine. It was a weapon to fight hunger. He then told himself, “I will make an electric wind.”

The junkyard in the village was a treasure house for William. He saw things there that could help him realise his dream. He could just pick up some things like a tractor fan or some pipe. Other things like bearings and bolts he had to remove. He had to strain every muscle in his body. The wheel for the electric wind was a big problem. But finally he got it. His father allowed him to take out one of the wheels of his bicycle. It was a big sacrifice. The bicycle was the only family vehicle.

William asked all the birds and spiders that had made the junkyard their home to go away. As he carried his possessions home, the villagers thought he was crazy. Only crazy people play with trash. After many weeks William arranged his pieces – a broken bicycle, rusted bottle caps, and plastic pipe. There was even a small generator that powered a headlight on a bike. For three days he worked on them.

Chickens squawked, dogs howled and neighbours shook their heads. But his cousin Geoffrey and his best friend Gilbert came asking him if they could help him with his electric wind. He asked them to follow him with their axes.

William took them to the forest. They cut long planks and hammered them together to make the tower for the windmill. They erected the tower and fixed the huge blades on the top.

William had made a crude motor which would rotate as the wind turned the blades. As soon as the wind was strong enough to turn the blades, he connected the wires from the motor to a bulb. The three of them watched excitedly as the light glowed. First it was faint. As the wind became stronger it burnt like the sun.

Soon people started cheering them. “I have made an electric wind!” William shouted happily. William knew he had just begun. He had only managed to light a bulb with the windmill. He had made a start. So another more powerful windmill would work a pump. It would water the fields. Creating food in his village where there was none would be a more wonderful magic than what he had heard in grandpa’s stories.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary in Malayalam

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 3

Class 6 English Crow Boy Summary

Crow Boy Summary in English

On the first day of our village school, one of the boys was found missing. He hid himself in the cellar of the schoolhouse. He was dark and small. He looked different from the other students. He lived on the other side of the mountain. As he was small in size, he was nicknamed Chibi, meaning ‘tiny boy’.

This boy was too afraid of our teacher. He did not learn anything. He was too afraid to make friends with other children. So he was left alone at study time and play time. He was always at the back of the class and at the end of a line.

But Chibi had his own way of passing his time and amusing himself. He would just stare at the top of his desk for a long time. Sometimes he would be gazing at the ceiling. There were many things to interest him: the design on the clothes of the boy sitting next to him, or what he could see through window.

In the playground, he would just close his eyes and listen to the wonderful sounds that came from near and far. He could hold and watch insects and grubs that most of us would not touch or even look at.

Everyone, even the children in the lower classes, called him a slowpoke. He came to school every day. He always brought the same lunch – a ball of rice wrapped in a radish leaf. Even when it rained or stormed, he came walking. He would then cover himself with a raincoat made of zebra grass.

Five years passed. Now they were in the 6th grade, the last class in school. Our new teacher Mr. Isobe was a friendly man with a kind smile. He made us change our way to look at Chibi.

Crow Boy Summary Class 6 English Kerala Syllabus 2

Mr. Isobe often took his class to the hilltop behind the school. He was happy to know that. Chibi knew all the places where the wild grapes and wild potatoes grew. He was amazed that Chibi knew all about the flowers in our class garden.

Mr. Isobe liked Chibi’ black and white drawings and tacked them up on the wall for everyone to see. He had no complaints about Chibi’s handwriting. Only Chibi could read it. Mr Isobe tacked some of Chibi’s writing on the wall. He often spent time with Chibi when no one was around.

When Chibi appeared on the stage at the talent show of that year, nobody could believe his eyes. They were amazed when Mr. Isobe announced that Chibi was going to imitate the cries of crows. Chibi got up on to the stage. First he imitated the cries of newly hatched crows. Then he imitated the cries of mother crow and father crow. He went on to imitate how crows cried early in the morning. He also imitated the sad and happy cries of the crows.

Everybody’s mind was taken to the far mountainside. Chibi came to school from there. Now they could imagine the far and lonely place where Chibi and his family lived. Mr. Isobe then explained how Chibi learned those calls. He left home for school, at dawn and returned at sunset everyday for 6 years.

Everyone of us cried for mistreating Chibi all those long years. Even grownups wiped their tears, saying, “He is wonderful”. Chibi was the only one in our class who has honoured for attendance through all the six years.

Chibi still came to the village to sell the charcoal he and his family made. Nobody called him Chibi now. They called him “Crow Boy”. We still heard his imitation of a happy crow as he returned home along the mountain road.

Crow Boy Summary in Malayalam
